The word Titanium comes from the Titans of Greek mythology who were known for their superior strength. Titanium naturally is a platinum grey color. After applying heat or electricity it becomes a brilliant white metal in its purest form.

Titanium is lighter than steel but just as strong, which is why it's the metal of choice in space shuttles. (85% of the space shuttle's structure is Titanium.) It is also the most widely used metal in surgical implants and surgical tools.
